Reading the Forum and Matt McLaughlin's columns makes me wonder how Race fans and writers can see the absolute mess that NASCAR has and is continuing to
make of the Sprint Cup Racing Series, while NASCAR blythely continues on it's merry way to destroy what used to be one of the most enjoyable, exciting and
entertaining sports in history. They have foisted the COT (Completely Onerous and Terrible) on us, taken away any initiative crew chiefs had because of the
constant new and changing rules, instituted the Chase which rewards the rich, multi-car teams and destroys any desire for positions 13-43 in the standings with
10 races still to go on the schedule, mandated restrictor plates and refuse to consider other methods to slow down cars at high speed tracks while maintaining
safety, and with their last minute "no bump draft" rule turned turned an exciting race into what amounted to having race fans sit at a railroad
crossing witching a continuous string of cars pass by. Add in the two hour pre-race inspections with the ton of templates mandated by NASCAR and it it no
wonder fan enthusiasm and participation is rapidly diminishing (check out the many empty seats at the tracks).
